I was hoping someone could tell me if a mare is only a 3 day cycler-How hard is it to AI her?
My vet says that Marisa will be very hard to AI.

Mares that exhibit estrus for only three days will indeed require closer monitoring in order to pinpoint correct breeding time, although if one knows when the prior ovulation ocurred, a reasonable assumption can be made as to the range of anticipated next ovulation, and the ultrasounds performed accordingly without too much trouble.

An easy alternative would be to use P&E.

THANK YOU Jos! I was hoping to breed her out next year as we are limiteed to the Andalusian stallions we have in our area. And we have had trouble with my other mare as well! We have tried to breed her these last two years but the stallion doesn't collect. And he doesn't get him tested. Which I didn't know until after the fact. Thanks again and can I print your artical on P&E?

Glad to be of help.

Reproduction of articles for personal use is of course permissible.

Have you thought of using frozen semen if you have a vet that is competent for reproduction?

I have 2 equine vets. The one we use the most breeds thoroughbreds so he doesn't do frozen. He says he isn't set up for it. And I haven't talked to the other vet about it. Will have to do that.
I went and looked at your frozen semen and see you do have 1 Andie stud. Monaco. He used to live not far from me here in BC and I was hoping to get a live cover with him and then the girl sold him to the states.
And any artical I will only use as ref for myself. Thanks again.
