I have a mare that is 119 days pregnant. we had her ultra-sounded at 28 days and only saw one foal. But she already looks 5 months pregnant. People have asked if she is due next month. i am trying to get photos. She is only 14.2 hands and bred to a 15.1 hands stallion. but i was wondering if she could be pregnant with twins? is there any way to tell this far along?
At 119 days, the fetus is somewhere in size between a 6-week old kitten and a rabbit. Perhaps the size of a large rat (without the tail!). In other words, even if there were twins, the fetal size alone would not make a significant size difference to the mare. It would be unlikely (although in equine reproduction, nothing is impossible!) therefore that what you are seeing is as a result of twins.
