Hi Everyone

My mare is at day 303. She started developing her bag at about day 290. The bag has become pretty good sized. My question is... Is this normal? She is not leaking milk and there are no other signs of labor. At what time do mares start to develop a bag?

Thanks for you input!
Pam

usually about 4 to 6 wks prior to delivery. If she started at 290...that puts her right on schedule for an ontime delivery. Bet you're getting excited now!!

Thanks Diana! Yes, so excited! We bred this mare which is Hanoverian/TB cross to our Friesian stud. I'm just so excited to meet the baby!

Hey Pam, who is your stallion? I bred my TB mare to Friso, and had a colt born 4/21 (one month old today!). If you could share your website, I'd love to check him out.

Hi Paige. Our stud is Taeke he is by Iron Springs Farm Erik 351 and out of a Sjaard daughter. We imported him as a 2 year old, he's 12 now. We don't have a website, but we do have a page on facebook - just search for Noble Horse Farm. I would post a picture here, but I'm not sure how to do that. Let me know if you'd like me to email you pictures.

As luck would have it, I can't access Facebook at work, and to save costs, don't have internet at home. I'd love to see your stallion, Pam. If you go to www.photobucket.com and sign on, you can post pics there. I'll be posting some new pics shortly on my little guy. He just turned 1 month old last Friday, and you can really start to see the Friesian influence. He's out of my 16.2 hd TB mare. If you look under the Foalwatch for '09-'10, it's listed under Diva "helicopter ears" (you'll see why)

Ok Paige - I think I've figured out this Photobucket thing. Not sure though here's my first try. I hope it works!

Thanks, Pam! You have a very nice looking stallion, kudos! How is your mare progressing? Any other signs of her getting ready?

I would love to talk to you more off list about your stallion, if you permit breeding to outside mares. Unfortunately, my mare foundered after foaling because she retained her placenta (she was already laminitic, so it didn't take much for her to have another flare-up), so rebreeding this year is out of the question. Depending on how things go with her, I'm considering trying for one last baby next spring. I would love it if you would contact me at realrush89@hotmail.com so we can talk some more about your beautiful big boy. Thanks!

Hi Cheryl - Thanks!

An update for my mare. She is at day 308 and doing great. Bag looks well developed and her belly is growing!!! I have a feeling this is going to be a very large foal!!! I still can't tell if she'll go the whole 340 days or if it will be closer to the 320 day mark. Day 320 will be June 6th! Getting very excited now!!!
