3 yr old Warmblood mare (maiden) who is bleeding from her uterus - that's been established now. Still lots of blood being expelled every day. All vets very confused she has been ultrasounded and nothing is standing out... She has been scoped with a camera now to see if we can find the source... she's been bleeding like this for well over a week now. She's dropped all her weight and is skin and bone. Need some answers urgently to what could be happening as the vets here are out of ideas.
Looking at the pictures It looks like she's losing a lot of blood. I'd be taking the mare to an equine hospital if you can't get any answers from your vet. That amount of blood is not normal. Hope you get some answers and all works out well
Is it categorically identified that the mare is bleeding from the uterus, or could it be from the vagina? Big difference!
One very common cause - and typically not a major problem - of blood from the vagina is a vaginal varicous veins that is leaking.
If your current vets cannot identify the source of the problem (and it appears they cannot), then you need to find a vet that can. Try your local veterinary teaching university if there's one handy, or else try and find a vet that specializes in equine reproduction.
