My vet says he doesnt' usually culture maidens.
Should she have a culture? She is coming 13 and a maiden. Never been bred at all. I will be having a repro exam but I was told usually just an ultrasound as long as all looks normal

In Ireland and the UK for all thoroughbred stallions the studs require CEM, EIA, EVA and cervical swab before covering even with maidens.

I have a 6 yr old maiden that I'm planning to breed this year and all the vets I've talked to have also told me that I didn't need to have a u/s done since she was a maiden. Seems like in Texas anyway it's a common practice not to u/s maidens.

I do plan on having an ultrasound done on her prior to so I can see where she is at in her cycle and make sure everything is structurally correct in there. BUT yes was told by the vet they typically do not do a culture on a maiden..
I am going to ask the stud owner what they want done but just wondered others thoughts
