I have a 10yr old APHA mare. She has no real udder development but just puffy nipples & some distention of milk viens.I have on occasion seen milk drops on her nipples. If you do express she has milk the white creamylike she had a foal type.she is not Prego.I had been trying to AI multiple times this mare over last 2 seasons but she never did settle in foal. She has had 2 previous foals one by live cover other AI no trouble concieving.Has had multiple U/S & clean culture reproductively looks healthy, shows heats.Only off thing is this ??lactation thing,is it some hormonal imbalance? how do I check what is going on with her.I gave up plan to breed this year after the failed previous attempts her but would like to try again in future.

I had a mare that would do this, never was bread or in contact with a stallion. I asked the vet and he said it was somewhat normal and can be caused by the heat cycle. Good luck breeding her, its just a gamble sometimes. I was worried about using AI with my mare this year and I searched long and hard for a good repro-vet. He came highly recommended and all he does is repro, i felt he was worth the money. He got my mare who has silent heat cycles to take in just one try!
