As I ready to return the mare I was leasing, in order to breed, I got to thinking, it would just be my luck that I return her and then find out she was infact pregnant, that it must have been "missed".

So has anyone ever had this happen? The vet says no way she is pregnant, between the 14-18 day check, cant find anything, did a sweep of all areas and finds nothing, plus uterine tone leads him to believe she did not take????

So I guess this has never happened??? I might add that she is going on day 24 and has not shown any signs of coming back into season????

Tammy,
I have heard of many vets missing pregnancy around that time. You could always hang on to her for a little while longer and have her rechecked if you are that concerned.

There's been vets that have missed foals at the 50 day mark and missed foals a day before the mare gave birth. It just depends how competent/knowledgable your vet is. I trust my vet with my life and he's never steered me wrong on anything including "phantom" pregnancies etc etc. Consider finding a local repro specialist for a second opinion.

Tia I trust my vet he has been my vet for over 30 yrs, but he is not a repro vet, general practice. I just have a weird feeling on this and now she hasnt come back into heat, she was bred on the 1st of July. I suppose it could be any reason umongst millions that she has not shown signs of heat, including her age??? Thanks all for the advise!
