I have a Belgian/Paint draft cross that is in foal approximately 60 days and is quite overweight. She adopted my daughter's orphan foal 3 weeks ago, we wanted to keep her happy and have let her have free choice hay but she is getting very overweight. She only gets 2 household cups of Triple Crown Lite grain AM/PM, so it's not the grain. Can I safely cut back on her hay? I also just dewormed her with Equimax, any problems with giving this dewormer to a pregnant mare? Thank you.
Sure, I have a Trakehner mare about 60 days in foal, she is getting cut back as well. It's better that mares not be overweight during pregnancy
Of course, you will eventually have to bump her back up, I start offering a bit more feed at around month 8.
