Not a first time breeder, but a bit surprised by the changes in a mare I purchased 6 months ago. A potential pregnancy was never mentioned.

She was under weight initially and has bloomed over the last 6 months. She always had a bit of a "hay belly" from day one, even with all bony areas protruding.

Over the last couple of weeks she started looking BIG. This past week while I was away I got text messages about her udder growing and producing a clear liquid.

As she's EXTREMELY needle shy, sedating for palpation isn't in my vet's best interst. We're going to do a transabdominal ultrasound tomorrow to confirm...

Desperate for input. She hasn't shown signs of being in heat in months. But I do recall that she appeared to cycle at least once in the last 6 months. She's turned out with my pregnant broodmare..

HELP!!

I have some before pictures and I'll take some new pics today.

The only way you will know for sure is to have her evaluated. If the vet is competent, they should be able to sedate her eve if she is difficult. Trans-abdominal u/s may not be conclusive. Rectal u/s is more likely to be. You can also look at using a "WeeFoal" pregnancy test kit that uses urine (follow that link for details).
