I have an outside mare currently at my house that is not coming into heat-- has been here long enough she should have cycled. They are picking her up this weekend to have her checked out again by the vet but am just wondering if anyone has any ideas why she may not be coming in heat. Apparenlty usually she really shows to the stud--i have been teasing her daily |

I would talk to the vet about Lutalyse. I have a mare that has been out of heat for 5 weeks, and my gosh, she is normally such a slut, even teases to the 45 year old gelding! We have been tracking her with the ultrasound, and she will grow follicles, but not above 33mm. So we gave her lutalyse yesterday, which will get rid of any lutyl (sp?) tissue that could be preventing the follicles from getting any larger. She is scheduled again for an ultrasound today, to see if the follicle has grown. |

Judy- Yep, got the silly old guy from Animal Control. He's all wrinkly, and has no teeth, so he just eats pellets. Every winter we are like "this is going to be it for Houston", and it seems like he keeps getting more and more healthy! I think we have had him for about 4 years now. And go figure, he is the hardest one to lead. So he just follows our other old crippled gelding around. I can't remember the last time he had a halter on, lol. He just stands for shots as long as his buddy is there with him |

Were you relying on teasing alone to indicate estrus, or was she being ultrasounded as well? Some mares don't display, and sometimes they just don't display to some stallions, but will be quite overt with others - they have likes and dislikes too!! |

We have two mares that show silent heat and another mare that just plain does not like a loud stallion. We short cycled the two silent heat mares with Prostin and I use a late cut gelding to tease the "picky" mare. |
