So we gave my mare lutalyse to short cycle her. Two days post lutalyse, she had a 48mm follicle, if she had not ovulated by the morning, we were going to go get the semen. Well, she had. Well, 4 days after that, she began showing heat. We did an ultrasound, antother big follicle, this time a 50mm. We went and got the semen. After ultrasounds every 6 hours, we inseminated her with the frozen semen. Long story short, she didnt take, and was checked at 16 days, with a 52mm follicle, and no signs of heat. I am almost sure she is double ovulating, she is not on any hormones of any sort, just hay. And I am going to breed her with fresh this go around (assuming I can get a booking this late in the season!). Which follicle should I breed on, or does it matter? This is a 7 year old maiden mare. Is there any explanation for this, or do some mares just naturally do it?
