My older mare(23 years) is swelling in her "inner stifle". ( Its the inner thigh and actually toward her butt.) I noticed it when she was walking. No limp but it was drooping and jiggling on one side. I looked and it does look swollen. She has been upset the past few days and doing a lot of pacing because I have let my other mare and new colt into the pasture next to her to get them used to each other before I put them together. Did she probably just pull a muscle?
If it jiggles then I worry about it being fluid filled which could be edema, abcess or a hematoma. I would put warm compresses on the area but if it doesn't get better or if she has a fever I would call the vet out.
