Hi all
I am new to the forum and found it by chance through google. Im from UK.

I have two maiden mares who were covered in the pasture on April 4th - April 12th 2007. I actually saw them being bred that whole week.

One of the mares udders has started to stay almost full throughout the day.

The other mares udder does not seem to be filling.

Both bellies look the same size, both slackening at the back end (rump).

I assume that they are due now, is this correct? Is it possible the second mare could still foal, even though she hasn't bagged?

If one mare foals before the other, what is the likliehood that the other will try to harm or steal it?

Both mares live out with large open stables to go into, which are bedded down.

Ive only experienced one other foaling, last year and this came two months later than the scan predicted, so i didn't use that method this year.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Tania (waves)
another UK memeber, as you know LOL!
For what it's worth, I think your mares are both round about their 340 days but as everyone here will tell you, they can easily go another month or even more beyond. I think there were one or two over 400 days last year

I'm not sure on the usefulness of the scan in predicting the date but it can eliminate the worry of twins so I would always scan now (after losing twins from an unscanned mare last year).

Re your mare who hasn't bagged, I am in the same position with Maybelline who is steadfastly refusing to make any sort of bag at all....I can't think she can possibly go another month but then we've been saying that since October......
I believe (and want to believe) that they can bag up pretty much as they are due to foal. I hope so..... My vet said I should try and source some colostrum but of course this time of year anyone who has any is hanging onto it for dear life. They can have a plasma transfusion but it is very expensive......

Anyhow, I am sure your mares are just fine and will foal normally when they are ready.

BTW we love pictures on here.......

Hi Jane

Nice to see you.

All my pics are on my old computer which crashed, but I took a few yesterday.

PLEASE excuse my mare, RU, her private parts, she really must buy better loo roll next time!!

You can see from the pics that RU has bigger bags. Infact, they were more full today than yesterday when these were taken.

My other maiden mare from last year only bagged as much as Ru has now, didn't wax, didn't run milk.

Guess they are like us humans, none are the same.
