Okay... This is really strange that I am so worried!! I went to my barn last night and looked at the roundbale in the pasture and my mare was laying down having what looked to be contractions.. Well I got back behind her and she didnt mind me being there as she did not get up and walk away she just looked at me with this "help me" look on her face..so I called my dad because around 4:30 yesterday I felt a foot of the baby going into the wrong position so I moved it. well I thaught she would have it last night but she didnt... My dad being the idiot he is was shining the flashlight in her eyes which she didnt appreciate any at all so she stood up. (I dont think she is comfortable with him) so I called an experianced ranch that has delt with this problem alot and knows how to help the mare safely.. he said everything was normal.. she is very bad swollen under her tail and her belly has bropped about 3-5 inches in 1 week.. I know she is about to have it and another sign she is haveing is the inside of her vulva is a medium reddish color.. About how long would you say before there is a baby?? she is at 367.. Should I be worried??

Hi Mary, Very pretty mare! I would say that she has some edema which is normal this late in pregnancy. Her udder could possibly fill out more but she looks like she is getting ready! good foaling vibes and let us know :-)

My Percheron mare is 11 months today and seems to be doing just fine. My concern is that this morning I noticed dark brown discharge. She seems to feel fine though. I have never seen this. Is this just a precurser to labor? Help!!!!!

Dottie....sounds normal to me. My mares drip kind of a brownish discharge for a while before foaling. Not a lot tho.
