Quick question. My mare will be coming into season on the 23rd(I've been dead on every heat cycle since october and she's extremely regular). That is also when the vet is coming out to float teeth. The mare has never had her teeth floated before. We're hoping to breed her that same week, but she will be bred 5 or 6 days after the teeth floating. Does this sound ok? I've heard of the bacteria released in the mouth when they float? Or do you think this can damage her chances for successfully getting bred? I'm not too worried about the stress issue, I don't think she'll mind. But what about the bacteria/any other issues?
Also, I know about vaccinations/worming/palpations for the preggers mare, but what blood tests do you suggest? She's getting her progesterone levels pulled at day 14 after breeding & an ultrasound. Are there any other that need to be done throughout the pregnancy?
Jackie, I don't have the exact answers you may be looking for but I have had pregnant mares have their teeth floated with no problems at all. I would think you would be ok. I've never had any blood tests with any of my mares so I can't help ya there
