My sisters mare is going to be 9-10 months preg when she will want to move it. Is this Dangerous? the haul will be about 14 hours...if there is no stopping. Going to Vancouver.

Well you need to make sure she has plenty of room, preferably a box stall where she can lay or stand at will. She will need free choice hay, I prefer alfalfa for long trips to keep them loose. You will also need to stop every few hours to offer water to her.

A 14 hour van ride for a mare in heavy gestation will be stressful. I agree with what Cathy said. It is a common practice to give regu-mate to mares that have to ship. I believe it is more for our peace of mind then anything but It doesn't hurt :-)

I have never heard of giving Regumate to a pregnant mare for shipping, what does that do?

I always give it prior to shipping then leave them on it for a month or so then wean them off of it. Balancing act this is!

Other than the opinions offered above - and this is a situation where Regumate may benefit a pregnant mare - the other major concern I would have is that you are moving a mare to a new location, where if she foals within about 30 days of arrival, she will not have had ample time to build antibodies to any new pathogens in the new location, so her colostrum may not contain all the antibodies required to give the newborn foal the immunity it needs. It is important therefore to (a) check the foal at 9-12 hours after birth for adequate IgG transfer; (b) consider a prophylactic antibiotic course at birth if the foaling occurs <30 days after arrival.
