I have a 21 yr old mare who is 7 months pregnant. I feed a really good bermuda grass hay, along with grain. And I was just wondering what would be a good grain to feed.

Phil, I like Purina products. The Purina rep. suggested we use Omelene 200. My pregnant mare is doing great on it. She has a nice coat on her and it shins. She is very healthy. They're website is
http://horse.purinamills.com/ if you'd like to check it out.

Phil, I really like LMF feeds, their website is www.lmffeeds.com They have a bunch of grains that are specialized for pregnant or nursing mares, growing foals etc. I believe Strategy is another grain I hear a lot of people use too. Honestly, they probably are all similar :-)

I'll have to check out Strategy. But so far I'm happy with Omelene 200. Thanks for the info. Tracy, do you add supplements to your grain for pregnant mares?

I do add a vitamin supplement to Tali's grain, I use Mare and Foal. You add a scoop twice a day to their grain and it's supposed to promote healthy growth of the fetus and a good supply of milk for nursing moms :-)

Thanks Tracy, I'm going to look into that. Is it expensive?

I gave you the wrong name before, oops, it's MarePlus. I get it from ValleyVet catalog, that seems to be the cheapest way to get it, it's about $30 for a 50 day supply, not bad. :-)

Not bad at all. Thanks Tracy
