At what day post ovulation can one have a blood test to confirm pregnancy? Is it 100% accurate?
Thanks

Michele, blood tests are not accurate until the pregnancy is further along, I believe it's around 120 days. The quickest way to determine pregnancy is by ultrasound around 15 days after last breeding. Keep us posted! :-)

I've used the estrone sulfate test which is reliable at 100+ days. Good luck!

Hi Tracy & Jackie

Thanks for the info I'm having the mare palpated and u/s at day 15 but when the owner takes her mare home she has no access to an equine vet and will rely on a blood test to confirm the mare's still pregnant further along the pregnancy.

The mare is being transported 4 hours up country at about 20 days in foal so I'd hoped she could be tested about 2 weeks after she arrives home to ensure she's still in foal. However, will just have to wait till 4 mos to do a blood test.
Jackie, what is the estrone sulphate test and where does one obtain it?

Many thanks
Michele

Michele, For the estrone sulfate test, a blood sample is taken and sent in to a lab. I work at a vet clinic, so am able to send it through my work. I'm not sure, but it might be able to be sent to the lab directly. If you ask your vet, they should be able to tell you. I've also used the pregnamare blood test. This is an at home pregnancy test that gives results within 1 hour with just a couple drops of blood. This only works from around day 45-90. I've used it 5 times now and it has always been reliable for me, but maybe I've just gotten lucky! (I think the manufacturer states 96% accuracy.) This can be purchased through many outlets, such as Jeffer's equine supply. Good luck!

Great, thanks for the info Jackie. 45 days is certainly sooner than 120 days!!
