I have a mare here running with one of my stallions, she had a foal last year, empty now, overweight, very easy going, easy to serve mare around 8 years old. Anyway shes been in season for the past 6 days been getting served, today Im pretty sure shes gone off anyway was just out checking a due to foal mare and heard squealing coming from the above mare, thought ok stallion must be giving it another shot and looked over (just in next paddock) stallion is on the opposite side of the paddock to this mare who as I watched would squeal and then strike at the air. I walked over to see what wrong and notice soemthing dripping underneath, look under her - its milk dripping from her teats, no bag, this mare is absolutely not in foal, has been nowhere near a stallion on purpose or accidently and has shrivelled up boobs like all non pregnant mares but is dripping milk. Pretty soon after this it stopped. Has anyone ever heard of this?
I just had a mare do this and was told it was a wierd heat cycle. She had never done so before and was actually a maiden who was AI bred but turned up none prego. Vet just said she was having a stronger heat. Not sure if its helped any for you tho as you said she was coming out of it.
