A friend of mine just bought a mare who is about 3 months pregnant. The previous owner hasn't had her vaccinated since fall of last year. My question is this-what do we give her? I have always kept all of my horses on a strict spring/fall shots schedule and I don't really know what to do with this mare....help/suggestions....please?? We live in North Texas since I know geography is important in giving or not giving some shots.

Whatever is a normal vaccination protocol for the region in which you live given possibly now and repeated an estimated 30 days prior to foaling; plus EHV-1 abortion strain vaccinations (approved vaccines in North America are "Pneumabort-K" and "Prodigy") at 5, 7 and 9 months of pregnancy as an absolute minimum.

Ok, here's another one:
vet says that mare needs VEWT, Flu-Rhino, and West Nile. Is the rhino in the Fort Dodge FluVac Innovator EHV 4/1 ok to use in a pregnant mare. Oh, I'm getting so confused with all of this. The mare wasn't quite three months preg. so I am waiting to vaccinate until she is 90 days along and I'm losing my mind trying to figure out if it's ok to really give this flu-rhino or not. I have bugged my vet about this mare and she's not even mine.....so I thought that I'd ask here and see if it's just me that finds this all so confusing. I just hate when I don't know history and things aren't on a schedule (ocd a little...I know).

I vaccinate with the EWT/West Nile combined and give Rhino specifically for pregnant mares.
