I have an arab mare that was in foal last year and lost her foal about 100 days. We just confirmed her by u/s to be in foal at 25 days. We are checking her Progestergone levels now, but she has a little fluid in her uterus. Do you think we should be concerned? THe vet didn't seem to be and said all looks ok. The size, shape looks proportionate.
What form is the fluid? Remember that the pregnancy at this stage is going to be manifesting primarily as an irregular area of fluid. Is your vet sure this is a separate region of fluid from the pregnancy?
If there is free fluid, there is nothing you can do about it, but I would definitely not want to supplement with progestins as they can suppress uterine ability to absorb fluid, so it could potentially make things worse.
I'm not a great believer in "low progesterone" supplemetation. Read the article about progestin supplementation on this site for more details (follow the link).
