Can anyone tell me if a mare will bleed throughout her heat cycle or just at the end??? If only at the end has anyone seen bleeding during the cycle that was normal? The term "bled out" came up the other day and not really sure if it is correct. Thanks :-)

I've never had a mare bleed at any time during her heat cycle. Anyone else?

I have never had one bleed? Bleeding out is a term we have used in surgery when they bleed profusely.

Mares do not have a menstrual cycle like humans do, so there is no sloughing off of the endometrium, and hence no bleeding.

Unless something has gone very wrong!
