Hi Jos,

This mare is a 14 yo maiden with a history of quiet heats. No other breeding attempts or tracking.

She was given a shot to short cycle her and was delivered here for breeding 2 days later. By 5 days post-shot, no signs of heat so palpated by my vet. Stated she would likely not come in for another 5-7 days (said perhaps they missed the timing on the first shot) but should go ahead and give her another shot to be sure (so second shot 5 days after 1st shot). Hasn't shown yet (now 7 days after second shot) so palpated again (by different vet) with same results. Now again looks to be at least 5-7 days away from ready to breed. In both palpations, she had one small ovary, non-active, and the other with tiny follicle.

So, what potential issues should I look for in this mare and recommend to her owner? Anything else we should think about doing/checking?

Thank you!
Linda

I think you will have better success if you have her ultrasounded rather than palpated. It's going to tell you more.
