I had a strange experience yesterday when we bred one of the mares on the farm. The mare has had 3 foals, including a colt this year. She had a normal delivery with no problems so we decided to try to breed her on her foal heat. Ultrasound indicated she was ready to breed at 7 days post foaling so we got semen for her. As soon as I pushed the syringe to inseminated the mare, she seemed to strain and urinated everywhere....including all over me. We bred the mare here last spring and she didn't do that. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Any ideas as to why the mare did that?

Maybe you just caught her at a bad time and she just needed to go and it didnt have anything to do with what you did, or you may have stimulated her in some way so she thought she was peeing for a stallion? Just an idea.

Well we inseminated the mare again yesterday and there was no problem. Perhaps it was just a one time thing.....I hope.
