I am looking at possibly getting a new mare and have some questions. She is 19yrs old this year and has a Grade IIA biopsy. She has had two previous foals and caught first time each time, last foal in 2007. She was bred 2 or 3 times last year and did not catch (fresh cooled) and a culture was later done that showed klebsiella pneumoniae and she was flushed with the appropriate antibiotic. No cytology was done and yes I know it was useless to do a culture without but just trying to pass along the info I was given. Anyways, she also said she did pool a bit of urine post insemination and it was cleaned out easily with a post breeding flush. I am assuming it is urine since that is what I was told but have no way of verifying. However, the urine makes me concerned as it is a much more major of a problem no than just fluid? Anyways, she has been offered to me on a free lease and just wondering if due to her age, history whether it is worth the risk (to try with an experience repro vet) or whether I should pass.
