Please give advise. I have a 3 year old mare in her fourth day of standing hear. Urine has been clear for all four days. Cervix is soft and open.
I do not have a good repro vet in the area or a sonogram. Please help. Thanks

Hi, welcome...but what do you want to know?

Sorry guess I did not really ask a question.
It is my understanding that normally a mare will present with cloudy urine before ovulating while in standing heat. So I'm confused as to why this mare is not presenting with cloudy urine before she ovulates (assuming she is going to ovulate this cycle). She is on her fourth day of standing for the stallion (urinating and squating and her cervix is soft and open). What might this indicate or be the problem?

There's really no way to tell what's going on in a situation such as this unless you have an ultrasound performed. The mare could be in diestrus but showing submissive behaviour; could be in estrus but still transitional with no dominant follicle; could have low estrogen levels; could have ovulated early in "standing" heat; etc. etc. Unfortunately, there are a variety of possibilities.
