OK THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED. MY MINI STUD BRED MY MINI MARE ON THE 13TH TO THE 18TH. I HAVE ALL MY HORSES TOGETHER. I BOUGHT A QUARTER FILLY LAST SATURDAY AND PUT HER IN A STALL. MY STUD WAS GOING NUTS AND WAS TRYING TO BREED BOTH MARES THAT HE'S IN WITH BUT NEITHER WANTED ANYTHING TO DO WITH HIM. WELL SUNDAY I WAS WORKING WITH THE FILLY AND MY STUD GOT EXCITED AND CHASED THE ONE MARE THAT HAD ALREADY BRED A WEEK AND A HALF AGO AND BRED HER. SHE WAS RUNNING AND KICKING BUT FINALLY GAVE UP AND STOOD STILL FOR HIM. JUST WONDERING IF SHE WAS ALREADY PREGNANT WILL IT AFFECT THE BABY OR WHAT WAS GOING ON. WHY WOULD THIS MARE LET HIM BREED IF SHES NOT IN HEAT. HE HASN'T DONE IT SINCE. NOW WHEN I TAKE THE FILLY OUT, I TAKE HER OUT OF SIGHT SO IT DONT GET HIM EXCITED. ANY THOUGHTS?

Yes, I beleive that if she had taken on the first breeding, and was actually pregnant, then you would most likely lose that pregnancy. I have heard of mares standing for stallions even if they arn't in heat, it just depends on the mare I think.

Samantha is right. Some mares will stand for a stallion even when pregnant and you can lose the foal

Whether the existing pregnancy is threatened will depend upon the degree to which the cervix is penetrated by the penis during the pregnant breeding.
In a normal breeding situation, the stallion's penis will penetrate into and sometimes through the cervix right into the uterus. Obviously when a mare is pregnant, the cervix should be tightly closed, but if the stallion thrusts hard enough, it may be penetrated - and at that point not only will semen be introduced into the uterus, but also pathogens, and the existing pregnancy is likely to be lost.
