I'm so excited. My mare was finally bred.
Does this guy sound like he knows what he's doing to you, Jos?/Does this sound like a textbook breeding? He's been breeding for a good 25 years. They do about 90 mares a year, AI, Embryo Transfer, etc...
Let me start by saying we got her E.coli and Staph cleaned up first go around with 3 day infusion of Amikacin.
Recultered, came back with Alpha Strep. He told me that this is very common in mares and he sees alot of mares with it. It was sensitive to most things(all but 3 I believe).
He said this is an ok infection to breed on(not all are). And that they do it routinely with lots of success. He said also with my mare being younger and having really good uterine clearance there shouldn't be a problem.

So this is what we did.
She came in and I brought her over to him, bout a 50 minute ride.

That is her follicle on Tuesday morning, bout 9 am. Averaged out to about 40/45.
We got the semen that afternoon after I went and picked it up(40 minute drive). It was collected at 4 25 and she was inseminated at 8 pm and given HcG to make her ovulate.
The next morning she hadn't ovulated, but this was the folicle at about 5:21pm on Wednesday.. much smaller.. feathered edges, etc.

We re-bred with the 2nd dose of semen, and she ovulated that night between 10pm and 1 am.

That is what the semen looked like when we got it.. very good. The video quality is somewhat bad on Photobucket.. So it rather ruins it. But there were thousands of them on that little screen.

So basically, on Thursday after finding that she had ovulated, we infused her with Amikacin and he let us go home. Stiched her up and said bring her back in 14.

Does this sound good to you? On ultrasound he said that she had NO fluid/no signs of endometritis/fluid in the uterus etc, and she had only had the Strep for 21 days or less( so in this case he thought it was okay to breed on it )..? Your opinion? =]

Also here is the info on the semen when we got it. What can you tell me from it?
collection time 4:25
total voulme of Raw gel free semen: 54 mls
concentration of raw gel free semen: 227 x 106/ml
extender dilution ratio: 1:4
total sperm concentration/dose of extended semen: 230,893
extender used: inra 96
percent progressive motility: 80%
total voulme per syring: 60 mls
# of syringes: 2

also if anyone else besides Jos has any comments.. feel free! i'm just curious
