Well her udder look rather unremarkable, but her milk veins look like they are working! You got a while.

Hi Melanie,

Your mare, for a maiden that was underweight when you got her, could very well be pregnant, but her udder is still quite small. But it is bigger than my maiden TB's, who is not pregnant. Unfortunately it will just probably have to be a waiting game. Any luck with a vet? Keep a watch on her and take pics every fourth or fifth day and then compare. I find it is amazing to see the change. The very first pic you posted - she didn't look pregnant. But she looks like she could be. Yes, those are the milk veins. Mares can sure keep you guessing. Keep us posted.

Hi Melanie, She looks like she may be pregnant. But if she was very thin when you got her she could be just plumping out quite nicely! I would defenitly have the vet out to palpate her. The waiting and wondering would drive me nuts! I bought a mare last September and was not told she could be pregnant till I had her for over a month.. I just HAD to know! LOL..
and sure enough, we had a filly born April 30th !! My first foal ever!! Good luck..it is an awesome experience!
My Koko is 2 1/2 months old and we started her on her first ponying lesson yesterday..

Hi Lynn, your foal is beautiful....aren't they a blessing?

Hi Melanie - it sounds as if you are doing a good job of putting on weight on your mare. The clear stickly yellowish liquid is the beginnings of milk. When it becomes opaque and white, then things should happen pretty quickly. I am still waiting on my mare. Her milk is much lighter in colour now and beginning to change. The website below has some pretty good pics of different stages of pregnancy of three different mares, pretty interesting. As you will see, no mare is the same:

Thank you everybody ! winks at Jane Olney*** :-)
My 12 yr old daughter takes the best pictures!!! I didn't mean to take the focus off melanie 's Beauty, but her mare sure looks like she is getting ready to keep her up nights...LOL...
Remembering how it was not so long ago...and now I can't believe my filly is almost 3 months old already!
Melanie I defenitly want to keep up with you and your Beauty! Did you say this is your first foal>? Beauty's belly looks prego to me! Her udder is small yet but you got fluid! I didn't get any till my mare was within days and her udder went up and down about 5 times in the last 8 weeks!!! It was sooooooooo exhausting! I didn't have a due date either. I can't wait to hear what the vet says!!! This is exciting. Good luck and I hope she is pregnant and you get a beautiful healthy foal!

Melanie, her udder is clearly fuller than the last pictures! What would really be helpfull is a full body spic from each side and a full back-side pic. Any news on the vet yet?

Melody,
Your mare is getting ready to protect her baby. Yes, she will act different. My mare was pinning her ears at the dog which she NEVER did. She also got upset when we put the saddle on. At that time we figured we were done with the riding.

Yes, the udders are bigger. Keep an eye on her. My mare was unusual in that her udders filled for 3-5 days and the baby was born.

A vet needs to see the placenta to make sure it is all there after your baby is born. So, save it in a plastic bag. They will also need to give the baby some injections and draw some blood to make sure it has correct immunity. They usually do this at about 24 hours old. In the first 24 hours you may have to give an enema to the baby if he cant pass his poop (you will notice him trying). You will also need to treat his belly button. My vet uses betadine tincture...but other people on the board use something else....
GOOD LUCK!!!!
Cant wait to see all your future posts, keep them coming!

Hi Melanie, I think she probably is preggers but like Jenny says she looks like she has to little while to go. Due to not really knowing a date myself, i thought my mare was ready to drop till i saw photos of other mares then i thought no way is she going to have it yet. Like you i could stand not knowing any longer, but i thought my mare had ovarian cysts as she kept mounting my friends mare and showing stallion tendancies. Of course everyone was saying, Aah thats ovarian cysts that is so i had her scanned. Of course this is when i found out she was in foal and she was to far along to predict a date, all the vet would say is that it was due in the summer. It can be stressful not knowing for sure. Did you say whether you had spotted any foal movement at all. Debbie. uk.

yeah it is really stressful...not knowing...i put a pic of her with two circles where i see movement out but im not for sure it could be foal movement...and biggest circle i seen some movement yesterday evening and its a soft and when she walks it jiggles and some does the top of her butt now...and i have never noticed her ever being like jello lol

Hi Melanie,
I saw movement in my mare's flank area when she was farther along...where you circled. And I do agree with the others...if she really is preggo she is prolly only about 6-7 months along...just 4 or 5 more months to go...But, I am NOT an expert at all.. I am just comparing to my mare.. I can't wait to hear what the vet says! And my mare was like that...looking preggo one day and not the next. Hang in there! If she is at my guess ...then that means she would have been bred in the winter...and I thought mares stopped their cycle in winter, so I don't really know what to think.

Hi Melanie, I couldn't get access to your latest pic. If you watch your mare often enough, you begin to think that they look like that all the time!! Taking pics once every few days shows you the difference if you take them from the same angle. Keep us posted.
