Hi All, Had a 18 yr old mare with foal ship in to be bred on Sat. June 30. She was checked the Thurs prior shipping and had a 35mm follicle and was teasing. My vet couldn't get here to check her again till Sun. On her advice, I bred her Sat. Sun she had a 44mm follicle with some eodema. We bred her again and went with Oxytocin protacol to help her clear fluid. Unfortunately the next time We could check her via ultrasound was Wed. My vet felt if she was still teasing strongly breed her again on Tues. and repeat Oxytocin. She was I did. Wed she had a 48mm follicle, which was softening and seeming like it may ovulate. We bred her again on Wed. and gave her HCG. Again unfortunately Vet can't get back till next week. My question is, its Fri and the mare is STILL teasing very strongly. Should I breed her again ??? Normally the HCG would promote ovulation 30 + hrs. , not sure why she is still flaming in heat, really doesn't even appear to be going out. Love some advice on whether or not to breed her Sat. if still in standing heat. She has only been bred AI but I do use a teaser to tease. I have even changed my teaser to a geld. just in case she's just smitten by him. She's teasing on anything with 4 legs. Wish all mares showed heat so well. But for 10 days?? Thanks, Maura
If the cervix is still relaxed, you should probably breed. If the cervix is tight, don't.
Some mares display submissive behaviour by behaving as though in estrus.
