Ok, just out of curiosity: I have recently acquired a 4 yr old maiden mare, but do not plan to breed her until next year. If I took her to a local stallion that offers a choice of live cover or AI, which is better? Is there a higher conception rate with one over the other? I've always done AI exclusively, from cooled semen shipped in, so live cover would be a first for me. This is also the first time I've had a maiden mare. (oh, the fun I'm gonna have come foaling time!) Any advice or insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Thanks, Jos! My mares are registered TBs, but I'm crossing them with warmbloods, so no need to worry about the JC. I guess if I have a choice, I'll tell the stallion owner I want AI. Thanks again!
