Ok, So I have a tricky mare, no one has been able to get her in foal but once, this is her first cycle with me, that I am trying on. She came into heat on Saturday, I gave Settle Saturday. They warned she may go off feed and get a fever, no worries as this meant it was working..
Well, Vet was out Monday, said she had a 40mm follicle and that I should inseminate her Tuesday evening. Well, when I inseminated her she was scorching hot, I need to take her temp yet, but she was much hotter than a normal mare would be.

My question is: will this fever kill the sperm? I keep feeling like they are going to get heat shock. They were not "chilled" first, it was an on-farm collection/insemination, so the semen was extended, and then straight into the mare. I checked the sperm pre and post breeding (what tiny bit was left in the tube) and it seemed to have more sperm swimming in circles or dead? Is this my imagination/paranoia or is this what I should be seeing? Should I worry? Try to re-breed tomorrow? (has caslicks, so has to be inseminated)

Thoughts?
