I have noticed a product on BET Pharmacy's website called Histrelin. As far as I can gather it is an ovulation stimulant similar to Deslorelin or HcG, but I've never heard of it it. Anyone used it? How effective is it? What is the dosage? I see they have a biorelease (LA) version as well.
Histrelin is a synthetic GnRH. It is indeed used to promote ovulation.
We were involved in Histrelin trials for BET Pharmacy last year, and found that it worked to good effect. We will be using it again this year.
The dosage may vary from the trial versions that we were using, so I'm not going to answer that part of your question! It is a prescription drug, so as you will require a prescription from your Veterinarian, the best thing is for either they or you to call BET Pharmacy directly (contact information here) and ask them what has been seen as the most suitable dosage in research (I haven't read all the research either).
Isn't it nice to have another form of ammunition in the arsenal for the war against mares that's just about to commence again for the year?!
Thanks Jos! Yes, it is wonderful to have more ammunition with these silly mares!
