I have a 16 yr. old maiden arab mare that I was able to get a few good live covers on, however, after being ultrasounded, she was not pregnant. The vet said she had just ovulated a few hours earlier and that I could use a Lutalyse shot to bring her in, but not to give it for at least 5 days. So I waited 6 days, gave her the shot, and have not seen her come back into heat since. Is it possible that the shot could have messed up her cycle?
No, but there are a variety of reasons why it may not have brought your mare into estrus ("heat") in the way you were expecting. Check out the article on this site about why prostaglandin didn't work (follow that link) which will hopefully answer some of your questions for you.
