Hello, just had a maiden TB mare covered last week and she was given a shot of oxytocin after breeding. I am not quite sure how it works, but I am assuming she was given the drug as she is very tight, wasn't even sure she would be loose enough to breed. Anyway, is this because she might have problems clearing fluids? Mare had just come out of training a month before and wasn't in the best of conditions when we bought her so really we are keeping are fingers crossed she's in foal. Very well bred mare and she has turned inside out since coming back from stud. thanks Terri
Thanks for the information on oxytocin. I have kept it for my reference. I had my mare scanned today for pregnancy and we have a foal! I feel very blessed with having three mare get infoal this year as it has been a difficult year in Ireland with getting mares in foal. Still have the heartbeat to check with this mare, but she should be o.k. Thanks for the help.
