Actually, although the research was done in conjunction with CSU, the actual processed is being performed commercially by a company called XY Inc. that is based in CO, and that company holds the world-wide patent on the process.

Sexed sperm is often not viable since the sperm is damaged in the process of selecting male and female. For bovine semen, which is less sensitive, this method is used, however the success in equine reproduction is still very limited. A healthy foal can only be produced from semen as little damaged as possible.
