I have a maiden 4 yr old mare that seems to be in constant heat. We bought her last Sep. and she had regular cycles all winter long at the end of the months. Since Feb. though, she's been constantly casting off to the stallion any time he makes a noise. We tried at the end of the month to cover her, but she literally runs out from underneath the stud. She'll let him rub all over her but as soon as he goes to mount, she takes off. I tried tying her up and she'll just kick him then. What do I need to do to regulate her cycles? Regumate? Lutalyse? Suggestions please!!!!
I'd start with a veterinary examination to confirm that she is indeed ovulating - she may merely be showing transitional estrus ("heat").
