Bred a mare last week and on her first cover she bled (quite a bit). Had the vet out to check her the next day and (keep in mind I am not a vet and didn't take exact notes) he found that her "flap" to the urethra is larger then the norm and was torn. He figured that when my stallion entered her, he caught this flap and tore it. It was swollen and quite red. We both agreed that it would be best to US her and then probably AI her to prevent any further damage.
The owner decided to wait until the next cycle... when we will have to check her again and then make a decision.
Your input is appreciated.

i had a mare do the same thing. luckily we gave her a hcg shot nad she went out of heat and produced a lovely colt. the vet said to either ai her or use a breeding roll. i suggest to ai her next time it is alot easier and less confusing.
I prefer live cover so I would use a breeding roll or two. you can buy them in sets and different sizes
