OK GUYS, I NEED SOME CALRIFICATION, I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND OUT HOW LONG BETWEEN MARES CYCLE, AND WHAT YOU GO BY, I KNOW IT IS 3 WEEKS, BUT IS THAT 3 WEEKS FROM LAST DAY TO FIRST DAY OR FIRST DAY TO FIRST DAY??? I AM ASKING BECAUSE I AM GOING TO TAKE A MARE BACK TO THE STUD WHEN SHE IS DUE TO CYLCE AGAIN TO SEE IF SHE AS CAUGHT (INSTEAD OF U/S), STUD OWNER SAID 14-15 DAYS FROM LAST BREEDING DATE BECAUSE SHE WILL CYCLE 3 WEEKS FROM FIRST DAY, NOW OTHERS HAVE TOLD ME 3 WEEKS FROM LAST BREEDING DATE...WHAT IS RIGHT?!?!?!?!?!?
Hi Kris - this is how I have it, and this is how my mare went too right up until I covered her the first time. I hope it helps some:
Each full cycle 21 days, first 5/6 days in oestrus and last 15/16 dioestrus.
From that I would go with the stud owner otherwise if you wait three weeks from the last breeding date (say you cover every other day from day one, day 5 will be your last) you will miss the standing heat period of the next cycle.
No probs kris - I enjoy helping now I knwo something : ) I just wish I could breed again this year... Grrr
