Hi, had a friend send me this picture of her foals teeth. It seems there is one large "plate" that takes the place of 3 teeth?! Has anybody ever seen this happen? If so, what was the outcome? We have written to several equine vets and dentists, and can't find anybody who's ever seen this before. Thanks for any input you may have!

You might contact a vet school (like Colorado State University) maybe they've seen or heard about this.

OK, i have finally heard back from North Carolina State University, Carl Mitz Equine Dentist, and a few others. All of them say this is (while not normal) certainly not uncommon to see. Apparantly, the teeth buds fuse together, and it grows as one big tooth. Everyone i spoke to says there's probably 3 normal teeth that will come in under it. Strangest thing I've ever seen! But, OK...whatever!

Oh good. I'm glad it isn't something that is going to bother the horse! Thanks for updating us! I was so curious!
