In the past, I have used a large syringe to milk a mare. I cut off one end of it, pushed the plunger completely in, placed the open end over the mare's teat and retracted the plunger. It creates a suction and works great and was much safer than standing with you head so close to her kicking end! Smooth off any rough edges before placed next to the tender skin of the mare. It is easy to pour the milk into a baby bottle/lamb bottle to feed the foal.
