Does a human type stethoscope work just as well on a horse as an equine one?

What about a digital thermometer?

Seems like a human type would be too short. But I can't locate one for a horse. I don't want the glass type.

I want to monitor the mare I'm watching to see when her temp. drops before she foals. Does anyone know where to get one? I've looked online and haven't found one yet. How much are they?

I use a human stethoscope and it works fine. I'm not sure if there's even an equine stethoscope available. I also use a human digital thermometer again I'm not sure that there's a special one for horses. Every vet I've ever seen has used a human stethoscope and thermometer. I get the thermometer in the local chemist/ pharmacy. Thermometers are not expensive, I live in Ireland and they're about 10 euro. Stethoscopes vary in price depending on the quality from about 30-300 euro. The one I like best is a Littmann and costs about 80 euro. I use a stethoscope at work every day and ordered it through a medical supplies company. Hope this helps

Thanks. The human thermometer seems so short! But I noticed the stable manager at the college I attend uses a human one. So thanks. I guess that answers that question!
