Dumb question. Do mares treat geldings as stallions?

My mare never lets me know when she is in heat. But I brought a gelding home and she is peeing right by the fence. Squeals and kicks the fence at times. She is keeping her six month old foal away from him, but acts like a mare in heat in other ways.

Do mares not know a gelding from a stallion?

Oh gosh, I just know I'm going to regret asking this, but the info. is worth a red face! HaHaHa!

lol dont worry your not the first to ask. Yes some mares will treat some geldings like stallions and some geldings will even mount the mare.
Its nt uncommon for a mare to tease to a gelding

I have ONE poor gelding and everyone else is a mare. I have 2 studs, but they are secluded.

My gelding happens to get turned out with the mares. He prances around and struts his stuff like he's king of the pasture.

The mares love him too. It's helpful when observing my mares' heat cycles.
