I have been hearing and reading about a mare's estrus cycle shutting down somewhat when the days are shorter. Yet I know a mare can come in to heat any month, right? Or not?

Short of hormones, is there a way to stimulate estrus and increase fertility, or not? And need I have any concern at all? I'm hoping I did not make a mistake by waiting. clipart{chewfingernails}

Thank-you Jos. That's kind of what I was thinking. Sigh.

By the way, Jos, I totally agree with your comments in these articles and I WISH the equine world would change the annual age date to at least the spring as well. The January date has always been a craw stuck in my jaw. It makes much more sense to anniversary date these horses based on what a "normal" breeding season entails and it would give these horses a truer sense of age assessment.
