i have an 8yr old danish wb mare since she was 3yrs.successful dressage horse in uk.she ran milk consistantly from 4-6yrs,was covered when she was 6, due to breeders error scanned too late with twins and lost both as vet tried to pinch one out.last year didn't run milk at all, and now for past 3-4 wks has really swollen teats and have to get milk out daily to make her comfortable.right side is watery left is always white.she was on regumate/porcine couple years ago but i took her off as i think it cramped her up and made her worse.can someone tell me what in hell is going on with my mare?!!! she used to get very aggressive and stiff when coming into season to the point where you couldn't ride her at all, but this year hasn't had that problem.its just the milk thing, but it can't be normal or good for her.
You might get the vet to give her something to help her dry up? Or just reduce the "milking" drastically, just enough to get a little pressure off, but not enough to tell her body to produce more.
No experience-just a couple of ideas.
