Any predictions??? Stud is (Buckskin) parents are (dad - buckskin - mom Sorrel). Mare (Sorrel). Foal form the two this last time - - - Palomino. Any ideas/predictions on next one????? I have checked a number of websites and they predict 25% palomino and 25% sorrel. Just fun to "hypothisize"!!!!!

Okay Deb, just to make sure I have got this right. Your mare is sorrel and the stallion you are breeding her to is buckskin?. No idea how much you know about this so I'll start at the beginning.
Bays and browns are essentially black horses. The agent (or whatever its called can't remember off the top of my head)just restricts the black to the mane tail and points on the bay and just a loose scattering everywhere for the brown. Buckskins are a further dilute of these.
Chestnut (or sorrel... I live in Australia, here we say chestnut... means same colour) is caused by a seperate agent, and palominos are the further dilute.
Because of these two seperate agents when you breed chestnuts, palominos and cremellos together, you get only chestnuts, palominos, and cremellos and when you breed blacks, bays, browns, buckskins and perlinos together you get only blacks, bays, browns, buckskins and perlinos.

Because you are using both agents sorrel/chestnut x buckskin, you statisticaly could get any of those colours EXCEPT cremello and/ or perlino. Solid crossed with a dilute gives 50% chance of solid and 50% chance of dilute so...
Dilute- palomino or buckskin. As the black is dominant and chestnut is recessive I'd say maybe higher chance of buckskin but they're about even
Solid- I'd say bay and chestnut are the most likely but brown and black are also possible.

I hope this helps you.

I don't mean to sound bossy or anything, but this thread probably should have gone in the equine genetics category.

It is hard to tell from the pics, but if he continues to get black in his mane and tail, then I think he will be a buckskin.

It definately looks like there is black coming through his mane, but only time will tell. It seems like it is taking forever for Jetta to shed out. The weather here has been really colder than normal. According the the paper we are colder than Sibera for this time of year. All anyone is talking about these days is about how cold it is, and how much the price of gas and food is. Here are some recent pics of Jetta the first one I thought was cute, because she has her back feet in her feed tub, and her head in her mom's feed tub http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa97/mollytomale-photos/0610081910.jpg http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa97/mollytomale-photos/0611081839.jpg http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa97/mollytomale-photos/0611081840.jpg http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa97/mollytomale-photos/0611081841b.jpg http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa97/mollytomale-photos/0611081842.jpg http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa97/mollytomale-photos/0611081843.jpg

Thanks Judy. I almost think Baby is not fat enough, but that is probally because I'm used to her being way fatter, and I'm talking about before she got pregnant. The last time I wormed her the weight tape said she was just under a 1,000lbs. I have owned her for 7 of her 8 years and she has never been under a 1,000lbs. I think the next time I breed her, I gonna give her a little more food than I did this time. Before she was pregnant, I only rode her about once or twice a week, and she still weighed just under 1100lbs. I can totally relate about just riding in the arena. I won't go out on the trail alone, and it is hard to find someone to go with me. How much are you feeding Dice?
