Im getting my mare Sandy palapted in a month YEA!!!!! lol
But what do i need. The vet is coming to us. He is doing her yearly shots, so we are just going to see.
But do i need a stable or something. Or could i just hold her on the lead rope.
The vet said something about a stable so she wont hurt any one. Or giving her that shot that makes them sleepy.
She is with three other horses and will be when he does the palaption. If he does give her the sleepy stuff will she be ok.
And will it be ok to palapte her with them around.
I have never done any thing like this before. HELP! and i need pregnant vibes PLEASE!!

HI ERICA,THE VETS LIKE TO HAVE SOMETHING BETWEEN THEM AND THE HORSE SO THEY DONT GET KICKED,IF I WHERE YOU I WOULD FIND A SPOT THAT SANDY COULD BE BY HERSELF AFTER SHE GOT THE SLEEPY SHOT .

Erica when my mare was palpated they did give here a tranquilizer, so she would not kick, incase she tried to the vets are in a precarious postion they have to stand behind the mare, and I had nowhere the vet could stand behind a gate either.

They go in rectally to feel the uterine horns, there is a left & right, my mare was pregnant in her left horn, thats were the baby was felt.

We just did it with me holding her lead in the hallway of the barn and vet did recommend she stay in the stall away from the other horses until she was fully alert again, which may have been only about 1 hour, then I could turn her back out.

hi erica,i did it just holding dice to,but my sister inlaw had to take her mare to the vets because even with the shot tosh still wanted to kick so if sandy is a nice mare u should be ok to hold her otherwise she will need to go to the vets office.

Thank you every one.
I wish we could take her to the vet. BUt i guess they will have to give her the sleepy stuff then palapte her. Last time she had to get that stuff she had her own pasture and there was something in her hoof. She didnt really mind the vet so i think just that will work.
Then i will just bring her down by a log she chews on to get it done then just stay with her till she recovers and keep the others far away. OMG I CANT WAIT!!
