Hi this is Melanie's sister who owns the gelding and i am so worried about him because for some reason he isnt filling out like our mare that we bought. we had his teeth floated and that helped some, hes gained a little bit more weight. but what i was wanting to know, he is all fat every where else on his body but his back and his ribs show. does anyone know why he is like this? i dont like seeing him look like this, it worries me very much! this one guy who came to my house one day said it could have been from when someone rode him way to early when he was younger and broken down his back. could that be the reason his backbone and ribs show?

He looks sort of wormy, have you wormed him good, I mean like wormed him with either double strongid or a panacur power pack?

Melanie, I would recommend having a vet out to do a fecal count and blood work. If all passes then he just may be a hard keeper but you definitely want to make sure there are no underlining issues. Please keep us posted on what you find out.

Yes I would do a fecal count to determine what is going on. different wormers get different worms.
