It has been suggested that a dose of 1 mg may be suitable (Squires and McKinnon, 1987). I have used up to 5 mg with some mares, and it is generally recognised that there will be likely to be individual variations, so titration to suit the mare may be necessary. Your prescribing veterinarian should be able to assist you with suitability for the individual mare.
