I have just insemiated 3 mares just about to book the 16 day scans thing is that if they are not in foal and i expect 2 of them not to be, they are then due to Ovualate on the monday again. My vet is coming on the thursday to PD them if they are not in foal and have an folicle of a good enough size what would be the effects of getting then to Ovulate earlier. My vet said that he could give then an injection to make then Ovulate within the 24 hour period. at least this way i could try and catch them on the friday before the post stops. hope this makes sense did to me but i'm dyslexic
The response will depend upon what the ovulation promoter is that you choose to use.
hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) needs to have a follicle 35 mm in diameter present in order to be reliably effective. If there is, and 1500-3300 IU are given to a full-sized horse, ovulation will occur within 36-42 hours in 80% of cases.
If Histrelin or Deslorelin is given, there needs to be a 30 mm follicle present and ovulation will occur in the majority of case within 48 hours.
